Kelly and Baudinet continue to dominate; Katonah falls to Willowbrook

Katonah Swim and Dive Team (KSDT) headed into their showdown with Division I champion Willowbrook Swim & Tennis on Saturday, July 19th hoping to keep some individual streaks alive.  Kerry Kelly and Michael Baudinet did just that, with Kerry remaining undefeated in 18 & under butterfly and freestyle, and Michael in backstroke and butterfly.  Despite their impressive swims, Katonah fell 282-246 to Willowbrook.

Elodie Nix broke her own team record in the 13 and under dive with a 114.05 total score, with Gabriella DeCicco taking third.  Teammate Dakota Adamac took first in the girls 18 and under dive, Luna Pagan diving up an age group was awarded fourth place.  Pat Kelly and Sam Sweeney got on the diving board for the first time this year for the 18 and under boys, with third and fourth place finishes.

Katonah took only 3 of the backstroke races with some very close 1-2 touch outs.  Kate Buckley (10 & under), Kerry Kelly and Michael Baudinet (18 & under) were first place finishers for KSDT.  Adding second place points for Katonah were Jessica Crane (8 & under), Claire Gaza and Kieran Brown (10 & under), Lily Buckley and Kevin Crane (12 & under), and Hailey Ivey and Sam Sweeney (14 & under).  Hailey and Sam both missed 1st place by less than 3/10ths of a second!

KSDT swam fast and saw multiple personal best times reached in breaststroke, but it wasn’t enough against last year’s champions.  Rowan Pedraza (8 & under) and Kaz Sampson (18 & under) won their heats, with second place finishes for Lily O’Shaughnessy (8 & under), Samantha Spieler (10 & under), Linn Carbaugh and Kevin Crane (12 & under), Zach Boies (14 & under) and Mary Helen Baudinet (18 & under).

After breaststroke the first team scores were announced:  Willowbrook 148, Katonah 110.    Stepping up for the butterfly event, the 8 and under girls Jessica Crane and Elizabeth Gaza finished 1-2, as did the 18 & under boys duo of Michael Baudinet and Kaz Sampson.   Lily Buckley (12 & under) grabbed first place, along with Kerry Kelly.  Baudinet and Kelly remained undefeated for the season in butterfly with one more meet to go!  Putting in strong second place performances were and Luke Spieler (8 & under), Allison Altholz (10 & under), and Zach Boies (14 & under).
