Why Are We Using Kids To Promote Gambling In New York?
An open letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo.
If you feel the same way, let him and our state legislators know!

Dear Governor Cuomo:
I am revolted by the recent NYS Lottery ad campaign "Win for Life" in which children are singing "Thank You for Being a Friend" as people line up to buy lottery tickets. Why are we using kids to promote gambling in our state? I believe we've crossed a line here that is most troubling
As you well know, the money from lottery sales was originally supposed to go into a separate fund for our public schools, but that has never happened. The money, from my understanding, goes into the General Fund. It is not "additional" money for education and it should not be advertised that way. The public has been mislead by our leaders in Albany for decades.
Finally, as a public music teacher, I would much rather hear these children singing in an "I Love New York" or other appropriate promotional video, such as celebrating "Music In Our Schools Month" here in New York state.
I urge you to pull this tasteless commercial immediately.
Sincerely,
Len Martello
