Are Your Property Taxes Too High?

You need to act now if you feel that your property taxes are too high for the current value of your home.  When I have a client with a high tax bill, I give them the name of our trusted service provider, Rich O’Donnell, founder of  RetiredAssessor.com.

Who better than a Retired Tax Assessor to help you get your property taxes lowered?

With 28 years of local government experience, Rich is now  a Property Tax Consultant.  He works with homeowners who believe that their taxes need to be re-assessed by filing a “tax grievance”.  It’s always a good idea to regularly review your assessment to see if it’s in line with the actual market value.  Why?  Because, it would save you money and make your property more saleable when you put it on the market.

The third Tuesday in June (6/18 this year) is always the deadline for filing a grievance for towns in Westchester and the cities of Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill and Rye.

If you call Rich now, his process includes:  Step 1- taking down your information and evaluating your individual situation.  At this point, Rich would let you know if he believed that there was a chance to lower your property tax by filing a grievance. Rich only gets paid when he successfully lowers your taxes, so he does a very thorough investigation of each case before he takes on the account.  Rich works in conjunction with an experienced appraiser who in Step 2, would research the property and report their findings to the client.  If both of these steps conclude that the property should be re-assessed, Rich will do all the work to file with the town or city.   If the town denies the grievance, Rich will take it a step further to Small Claims Court.

This is an involved process that most homeowners do not have the time or experience to handle on their own.  Call me with question 914.234.4444 or email mark@markboyland.com
