Senior Move Specialists:Why You Need to Know About This Moving Service

One of my clients is entering a new stage of life. I connected her with a great local service company called, Sort & Settle.

One of my clients in Heritage Hills, Westchester County, is entering a new stage of life. She originally downsized from a house to a condo, and now needs assisted living care. I connected my client with a great local service company called, Sort & Settle. Co-owners Lynda Crowley and Whitney DiMinno are senior move managers. They support people and their families who want to make changes in their living situations.

I asked Lynda and Whitney to help me explain their service and provide some advice for the "sandwich generation". As senior move managers, it's their job to manage the logistics of a move, whether down the road or to a different state. They actually sort, dispose, pack, and settle a client into their new home. On several occasions, I have seen them reduce the stress of the moving process - not only for the person downsizing, but for the children of the client. In real estate you often see seniors who are alone and in need of downsizing, or who are going to an extended care facility. It is very difficult to watch, as they try to go through years of accumulation to clean out their homes. That's where Sort & Settle comes in.

I asked Lynda and Whitney to describe the most challenging move they've arranged to date. They both agreed that it was a local senior who needed to be moved to an assisted living situation in another state, closer to family. Instead of the family members having to take time off of work to keep traveling back and forth, Lynda & Whitney sorted and packed up the senior's home. When they arranged for the movers to take the belongings, they also took photos of how everything should be set up in the new space. They worked with the assisted living manager to make the space familiar and comfortable, and even reported on the medications the client was bringing with her.

Lynda and Whitney's tip for you is: the best time to use senior move specialists is after the decision to move has been made, and the "where to" is agreed upon. A common mistake is waiting too long to make moving decisions. "Make choices while you have choices to make." The best time to move a senior is before the home goes on the market, if possible. Acclimation into a different community happens so much faster when people haven't been burdened by the stress of selling their home.
