Services for Michael McAnaw to be held Tuesday

Michael D. McAnaw, 16-year resident of Somers and president of the North Salem Chamber of Commerce, died last week at age 56.

Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster provided this obituary.

Michael D. McAnaw, a 16-year resident of Somers, and formerly of Brooklyn, died Thursday at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. 

Mr. McAnaw was born July 23, 1956 in Brooklyn to Michael and Carol Ann (McHugh) McAnaw of Brooklyn. He graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Science.

On Oct. 9, 1988 Michael married Judi Rubin in Cambridge, MA.

Mr. McAnaw was a financial advisor for 20 years, first with the Bank of New York and then most recently with Edward Jones Investments in Somers.

Through the years, Mr. McAnaw took part in many a community organization including past president of the Somers Chamber of Commerce and presently serving as president of the North Salem Chamber of Commerce. He was an honoree of the Somers Education Foundation and active with the Somers Library.

Mr. McAnaw was a past board member of the Temple Beth Elohim in Brewster, as well as an avid Mets, Rangers and Syracuse basketball fan. He enjoyed the outdoors hiking and kayaking. 

Michael’s daughters were the center of his life. He enjoyed traveling with them and participating in school events such as Sarah’s marching band. He was there to assist Emma with her Gold Award through Girl Scouts as well.

In addition to his parents and his wife of 24 years, Mr. McAnaw is survived by his two children, Sarah and Emma McAnaw, both of Somers; three sisters, Kathleen Feminella of Millburn, NJ, Colleen Russo of Brooklyn and Linda McAnaw McGuinness of Brooklyn; and his mother-in-law, Suzanne Rubin of New Bedford, MA. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews: Carol Grauer, Cassie Russo, John Feminella, James Russo, Jack Rubin, Drew Burke, Josh Rubin, Evan Burke, Veronica McGuinness and Michael McGuinness.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (May 14) at Temple Beth Elohim (31 Mt. Ebo Road North, Brewster). Interment will follow at King David Cemetery (101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley). Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, 845-279-3615) will be assisting with the funeral arrangements.

 Mr. McAnaw’s family will be sitting Shiva on Tuesday afternoon following the funeral services and on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.
