Letter: Maloney Best Choice for Women in 2012

Bea Rhodes writes in support of Sean Patrick Maloney for New York's 18th district.

To the Editor:

Sean Patrick Maloney, the Democratic challenger for Congress, is the best choice for women voters this election year.  He will represent the interests of women in the Hudson Valley.

Even though Nan is a doctor, a woman, her voting record doesn’t indicate she take’s women’s health seriously.  Sean is a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose and unlike Congresswoman Hayworth, Sean supports funding for access to contraception. Locally, 12 health centers provide care to over 35,000 patients each year. Eliminating funding to Planned Parenthood means over 31,000 patients will lose access to care such as cervical cancer screenings, affordable birth control and HIV testing.

In addition, Sean supports the Affordable Care Act, which prohibits insurance companies from charging women higher premiums.  Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, who has taken thousands of dollars from insurers, supports repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Sean Patrick Maloney supports equality in the work place and supports the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would bar companies from retaliating against workers who inquire about pay disparities and allow employees to sue for punitive damages in cases of paycheck discrimination.

Fortunately, the women of the Hudson Valley do have a real champion on the ballot this November: Sean Patrick Maloney.  Sean is a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose.  On November 6th vote for Sean Maloney.

Sincerely,

Bea Rhodes

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
