Recent weird and unusual crime in the Hudson Valley. Reports do not indicate a conviction.

Police: Man Charged With Weapons Possession After Accidentally Shooting Family Member

A Florida man accidentally shot a family member in the elbow, according to State troopers. The man apparently brought a newly-purchased handgun with him to a family gathering and was showing it to a female family member when he accidentally shot her. The woman was treated at Danbury hospital and the injuries were not life threatening.  

White Plains police arrested two man after they allegedly took the police on a chase through downtown. The men, of The Bronx, reportedly came to a quick stop at a stop sign and then one left the car to yell at a third party. Police thought the car had been abandoned and as they approached the vehicle, the driver got back into the car and drove away, through a red light. Police also saw the driver throw an object out of the window. Police say the car smelled of marijuana and alcohol and found a bag of cocaine and heroin that they believe was thrown from the car. More drugs were allegedly found in the car. 

Police: Man Who Drove Through Barricades at Holiday Event Again Charged with DWI

Two weeks after a man was arrested for driving through the barricades surrounding a Pearl River holiday event, that same man was arrested again on drunken driving charges. Police received a complaint of a man passed out in a car in a traffic lane.  

A Bardonia podiatrist practicing with Rockland Podiatry is accused of theft and falsifying business records in a medical billing scam totalling $84,000. The doctor allegedly submitted hundreds of fraudulent medical bills to major health insurance companies. She is also accused of cheating Rockland Podiatry out of her share of billings. 

Unoccupied Car Found in Mahwah River in Hillburn

Volunteer firefighters from New York and New Jersey spent two hours trying to extract a car from the Mahwah River in Hillburn. Officials determined no one was in the car and do not know how it got there. 

D.A.: Man Filed Fake Documents in Court to Dodge Community Service

A Spring Valley man who was ordered to perform community service following a marijuana possession charge was arrested again after filing false papers stating the community service had been completed. The District Attorney alleges none of the community service had been performed. According to officials, it is not uncommon for such papers to be falsified and the arrest is part of a crack-down on such behavior. 

11 Car Break-Ins Reported in Pelham Manor

Pelham Manor residents are being urged to lock their cars at night following 11 car break-ins in recent weeks. Most of the cars broken into were unlocked. 

Peekskill Police: Man Won’t be Charged for Accidental Rifle Shot

An 88-year-old Peekskill man accidentally fired a rifle into his neighbor's apartment but no charges are being filed. The incident apparently took place while the man was cleaning his rife. The bullet pierced the sheet rock between the apartment, entering a room occupied by five people. No injuries were sustained. 

Two women scammed a Port Chester woman out of $9,000 in cash and $2,000 in jewelry, including wedding rings, by claiming they needed help collecting their lottery winnings. The con artists told the woman they would give her $19,000 after they collected the prize. She then drove home, gathered the money and jewelry, and handed it over to the women. When the women asked her to get ID from inside her home, they drove off. 

Scarsdale PD: Thief Steals Holiday Toys

A Scarsdale doctor's office reported the theft of 20 donated toys worth about $1,000 and a $100 check from its office. Police are reviewing surveilance cameras for leads. 

Cashier Accused of Stealing Cell Phone

White Plains police say a Wal Mart employee was caught stealing a customer's cell phone. The victim apparently left her phone on the counter while she was checking out and when she returned a few minutes later, the phone was gone.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education. Mr Stone who himself admitted he had never even been to a BOE meeting before deciding to run offers no sense of motivation other than Dr Treyz and his friends think he'll help shift the direction back toward finance. Mr Holbrook is no different a candidate than Mr Lipton himself was 6 years ago.
