I love love love The Benefit Shop, but as the founder and owner, that probably should go with the turf. We have fun everyday, we make people happy every day, and we see the most unusual things....every day!
We just received the contents of a Bedford Estate where the homeowners were and are adventurous world travelers. They donated their mask collection from around the globe, ceremonial Hukahs, carved statuary, handmade jewelry and more.
And then we unpacked the "WHATISTHISODDTHING?????"
A carved out orb shiny and rough and embelished with miniature silver dangling items.
A little online research solved the mystery. It was a monkey skull, prepared for a sacred religious ritual. The skull is filled with animal blood, all in a circle sip to achieve a state of transcendence.
Now, we do have shoppers at the benefit shop requesting the odd and the unusual, and we tend to see it often. While we did not have someone yet to ask for a ritual monkey skull, we had a customr who was thrilled to add it to his collection of oddities.
