A 48-year-old Carmel woman is facing misdemeanor charges after an erratic driving incident that ended with her resisting arrest, according to authorities.
State Police arrested Susan Romagno at about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, shortly after troopers responded to a Putnam 911 report of a driver—who was allegedly striking guide rails and running other vehicles off the road—headed north, from Interstate 684 to Route 22 in Southeast.
"Troopers located the stopped vehicle on State Route 22 facing northbound in the southbound lane," officials said in a press release. "The operator was attempting to execute a U-turn. With the assistance of a retired New York State Corrections sergeant and MTA Police, troopers were able to prevent her from leaving the scene and remove her from the vehicle."
Romagno allegedly failed field sobriety tests and showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.13 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.
Police say she "actively resisted efforts to handcuff her" and grabbed a trooper's Taser holster, which broke. Romagno is facing the follow misdemeanor charges: driving while intoxicated, fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
The defendant was released pending a Jan. 10 appearance in Southeast Justice Court.
