Death at Train Station Parking Lot: Man Committed Suicide, Officials Say

The man found Sunday afternoon inside a burning Chevy Tahoe in the parking lot of Metro-North Railroad's Purdy's Station committed suicide, according to the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office.

He has been identified as David Mahoney of Somers. He was 41.

The official cause of death was self-immolation with burns on the body, and inhalation of smoke containing carbon monoxide, officials said Tuesday.

Local firefighters and police officers responded to a call of a car fire at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday. The man was unresponsive when they arrived.
