Frosting Distraction Leads to Stolen Cash, iPhone

Bedford police are investigating a theft that allegedly occurred at Sweetooth Katonah.

A customer of Sweetooth Katonah apparently distracted an employee of the popular cupcake bakery and made off with $100 cash from the register and the employee's iPhone, Bedford police said.

The alleged theft happened on Jan. 3 at about 2:45 p.m., after a customer came into the shop and ordered a red velvet cupcake. When the "customer" requested additional frosting, the employee obliged, and stepped away from the register for a moment.

The employee returned to the front counter, but the "customer" was gone. The employee noticed that the register drawer was open and cash was missing, police said. The employee's iPhone was also apparently stolen.
