Fire Guts Vacant Home on Hook Road in Bedford

An overnight blaze destroyed a home that was on the market.

A fire destroyed an unoccupied home on Hook Road in Bedford early Tuesday morning.

Bedford Fire Department firefighters responded to the residence at 334 Hook Road, which was listed for sale at $1.75 million on Coldwell Banker's residential brokerage site.

Bedford Fire Chief Peter Aquilino said the blaze broke out at about 3 a.m. and took over two hours to bring under control.

"When we arrived, the home was fully engulfed, with flames in the basement, first and second floors," he said.

As of noon on Tuesday, smoke was still visibly coming from the structure, which was gutted from the fire. Aquilino said firefighters returned later in the morning to extinguish some "hot spots" but at that point, the home was a concrete shell.

The four-bedroom home is situated on 8 acres which includes a guest cottage on the property.

Firefighters from South Salem, Goldens Bridge, Katonah, Bedford Hills and Mt. Kisco responded to the scene, according to Aquilino. Bedford-Banksville stoodby from their headquarters.

Fire officials called the Westchester County Cause and Origin team to the scene. A cause of the fire has not been yet been determined.

Aquilino—a fourth-generation firefighter in Bedford—was elected to the position of fire chief earlier in December. He officially took the reins from former fire chief Jason Siemers at midnight on Dec. 31, just three hours before the fire started.

This is a terrific addition to town! I know I struggle with mounting piles of things to donate andRead More finding places to give to. With the Community Center and now Goodwill, great to find a second home for goods.
