K-L Voters Pass Budget, Elect Stone, Holbrook And Treyz To Board

Katonah Lewisboro voters passed the 2013-14 school district budget, re-elected Peter Treyz and brought in two new school board members: Jeff Holbrook and Richard Stone.

Unofficial results were announced at about 9:30 p.m. at Increase Miller Elementary School. The budget passed with a comfortable margin, with 58 percent of the vote.

Current board president Mark Lipton did not receive enough votes for a third term. On his defeat, Lipton said the schools "belong to the community" and they should have the leadership residents want.

"I respect their [voters] choice and will do all I can to help the new trustees transition in any way I can," he said in an email to Patch after the election.

Stone, who secured the most votes of the four school board candidates vying for three seats on the board, said he was excited to start.

"I'm really looking forward to serving on the board, and I'd like to thank the voters who supported me," he said.

Charles Day, the board's current vice-president, said he was thrilled at the wide margin of support for next year's budget, a spending plan totaling nearly $115 million, and representing a 1.34 percent tax levy increase over last year's budget.

"It's great news in these contentious times," he said. "I also think all three board members will make great contributions. We're especially grateful for the service of the two members who will be leaving, Peter Breslin and Mark Lipton."
