Saturday: 'Coffee with a Cop' in Katonah

The Bedford Police Department announced that its officers will be hosting Coffee with a Cop, a chance for people in the community to come and talk.

"Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in the Town of Bedford," the police department's announcement states.

The event will be on Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m. It will be held at Katonah Restaurant, which is at 63 Katonah Ave. in Katonah.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” Lt. Melvin Padilla said in a press release for the event. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

The purpose of Coffee with a Cop is to give people a relaxed setting to talk, police note, in contrast to times at are emotional.

"The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction."
