Two Handguns Stolen in Rockland Home Burglary

In addition to the handguns, criminals took cash, jewelry and pistol permits.

A New City home was burglarized and ransacked on Wednesday, Clarkstown Police said.

Two handguns, a .45 cailber Colt and .22 caliber Iver Johnson, were stolen, along with Rockland and Orange County pistol permits. Police report two safes on the upper level of the home were pried open and a third safe was missing from the basement.

An undetermined amount of cash, jewelry and U.S. Savings Bonds were also taken. The homeowner reported the burglary to police at about 9:45 p.m. Sgt. Jo Anne Fratianni said she did not know if the home had been included in an online map of Rockland County licensed pistol permit holders.

In a follow-up statement, police note the burglary is still under investigation and there are no facts to support a correlation between it and the published map.

Earlier this week, a burglar attempted to pry open a gun locker inside a White Plains home listed on the controversial gun permit map, police said.
