Unusual Suspects: Pit Bull Attack; Ground Shakes; Explosive Device

Recent weird and unusual crime in the Hudson Valley. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A male jogger discovered what appeared to be a small bomb on the North County Trailway bike path in Mont Pleasant. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety confirmed that the device has the potential to explode. The bomb squad deactivated and removed the device from the path. The incident is still under investigation.

A Port Chester man was arrested and charged with second-degree assault for allegedly ordering a pit bull to attack a woman. Police said the incident occurred after the woman told Jamar Calhoun to stop abusing his pit bull and, in return, Calhoun ordered the pit bull to attack. The dog bit and scratched her leg and she required medical attention.

Residents in the Greenhaven and Shore Acres sections of Rye contacted police last Wednesday after hearing what sounded like an explosion and feeling the ground shake. Approximately an hour after the calls came in, area roads were declared clear.

Gina Bijow ignored the warning security officers at the Nanuet Kohl's gave her to stay out of the store following a November incident. When she recently returned, security spotted her trying to leave the store without paying for 17 fragrance items valued at $880 that she allegedly stashed in a bag. She was charged with burglary and theft charges.

Tarrytown police received a call from a woman who said she and her son had been poisoned by lollipops. The duo were waiting in a blue minivan on Interstate 87 Northbound at Exit 8 for assistance.

Okay but let's focus on the charter of the BOE. The Board of Education believes its primaryRead More responsibility should focus on creating an educational environment that will help our students become knowledgeable individuals, problem-solvers, quality producers, effective communicators, wholesome individuals, collaborative workers, ethical individuals, life-long learners, and responsible, accepting and involved citizens. We remain committed to providing a high quality, well-balanced educational program that supports our faculty and staff and helps our students meet and exceed State standards as well as high district goals. It says nothing about protecting the investments of taxpayers by voting "no" on every expenditure. We need forward thinking, broad minded individuals to help guide educational direction of our schools. Keeping expenses reasonable and and in check should be a consideration by the educational focus should be primary. Although novices, Trustees Tobin and Schiff have helped true the course of the board back to the direction of education.
