Cuomo Benefiting from 'Where is Rob?' Opposition Website Against Astorino

The website has leveled several harsh criticisms aimed at Astorino's record.

A persistent opposition website is targeting Republican gubernatorial challenger Rob Astorino to the benefit of incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to The Journal News.

Whereisrob.com is a website quietly created by some of Cuomo's fellow Democrats, but it is not affiliated with the governor's re-election campaign. Its organizers call themselves the Astorino Truth Squad, and reportedly includes Mike Morey, a political operative and former staffer from Sen. Chuck Schumer's office, writes reporter Elizabeth Ganga.

But because it does some of the hard-hitting criticism of Astorino, who is currently Westchester County Executive, it allows Cuomo to stay above the fray.

As of Monday, the site claimed that Astorino has spent 41 days working outside of the county, which it calculates to mean he owes taxpayers $25,350. Among other claims, the site also says that Astorino promised to cut Westchester taxes by 20 percent, but he vetoed a proposed tax cut.

Whether the site is making a difference remains to be seen, but Cuomo continues to have a commanding lead on Astorino in the polls and in fundraising.

"There is nothing truthful about them," Astorino spokesperson Jessica Proud told The Journal News. "They are a couple of Andrew Cuomo's hired guns tasked with trying to discredit the County Executive's strong record of putting Westchester back in the winning column. They have failed twice before and the people of New York are smart enough to see through their mistruths and nasty attacks."
