Town Seeks Zoning Board Chair After Menken Resigns

In addition, there are six other vacancies on town boards and committees.

After David Menken is stepping down from his position as chairman of Bedford's zoning board.

His resignation is effective Dec. 31 or earlier, if the board finds a replacement sooner, he said in a memo to the town board.

At Tuesday night's town board meeting, Supervisor Lee Roberts wished Menken well in his new role and thanked him for his years of service on the zoning board.

Roberts announced that applications were now being accepted by the town for membership on the board and town officials will be interviewing candidates for the role of chair.

The five member zoning board of appeals is a quasi-judicial board board that hears and rules on appeals from decisions by the planning board, building inspector or town board, depending on the issue, according to the town's website.

The ZBA also grants special use permits for uses such as private clubs, private schools and churches and may issue variances from various Town codes.

The town also has vacancies on the following boards:

  • One seat on the Blue Mountain Housing Development Corporation
  • One (Democratic) seat on the Board of Ethics
  • Two vacancies on the Communications Committee
  • One vacancy on the Katonah District Review Commission (Local store owner)
  • One seat on the Tree Advisory Board
