Vintage Expands With 'Awesome Stuff for Dudes'

The shop at 297 Bedford Road is filled with one-of-a-kind items for men and women.

If you've ever gone shopping with your wife and ended up sitting in a chair while she mulled over things for "her"—while you wished for things for "him"— there's a store in town that's perfect for you.

With its brand-new expansion into the half of the storefront formerly occupied by Suburban Groove before it moved to downtown Katonah, Vintage has doubled its merchandise and separated it by gender. It's a great place to couples-shop but you needn't be part of a couple to enjoy the store's wares.

"For the past 14 years, we've always had a mix of merchandise for men and women," said Laura Herlihy, who co-owns the shop with her husband, T.J. Herlihy. When the opportunity arose to double their space, they decided to broaden their appeal to men and re-design their space to better showcase the merchandise.

Though they buy together, T.J., a former commodities broker, mainly collects for the men's side, and Laura, an antiques dealer, fashion maven and stylist, stocks and designs the women's side.

From the whimsical windows—the "dudes" side of the shop features a traffic light, street cop and a Grateful Dead skeleton on a motorcycle—to artful displays of sports equipment, musical instruments, military collectibles and vintage rock tees, the store offers merchandise to satisfy virtually any interest.

The "chicks" side overwhelms the senses immediately upon entering—in a good way. Sparkly costume jewelry is everywhere—in cases, on table, hanging from display trees. Herlihy can help outfit customers with her stock of casual wear to designer couture from movie sets and fashion houses. Styles range from vintage to modern in sizes from zero to 18.

Merchandise is offered at a range of price points, from $5 and up

In their recent announcement of their expansion, Laura Herlihy said, "Come to me, and I guarantee, that after just a glance, I will not only peg your size, but will also put you into the dress that will best fit your body style and your personality. I am that good."

And if you tire of dressing up, you can buy a gift for the man in your life next door.

Vintage is located at 297 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills, near the Bedford police station. The store's number is 914-242-9846.
