Eleanor Roosevelt Grant Awarded to Ali Boak + Sherene De Palma

(Pound Ridge, NY – September 30, 2013) – Pound Ridge Democratic candidates Ali Boak (for Town Supervisor) and Sherene De Palma (for Town Board) received notification that “Eleanor’s Legacy” proudly endorses their 2013 Democratic and Independence Party campaign, “Pound Ridge Victory 2013”.

“We received many applications from candidates around the state this year,” wrote Brette McSweeney, Executive Director and Lynne Mahoney, Chair, Campaign Committee in their announcement. “We are excited by the number of qualified, progressive women who made the decision to run for office and be leaders in their communities.”

Eleanor's Legacy is building a new generation of pro-choice Democratic women candidates, informed voters and political activists throughout New York State. The organization raises funds to elect women to state and local offices, provide political training and leadership development, and continue establishing a growing statewide network of women community leaders, elected officials and grassroots activists.

Based in NYC, the organization is inspired by the dynamic legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Roosevelt dedicated her life to expanding the role of women in politics and government. As she famously said, “Democracy is not about words, but action.”

"I am honored to have the backing of Eleanor's Legacy once again,” Boak said. “As women continue to be significantly under-represented in government on all levels, the support of Eleanor’s Legacy is critical to bringing our perspective and ideas to community issues."

“I, too, am deeply grateful to have received this grant,” added De Palma. “In addition to supporting me and Ali Boak as progressive women, the Eleanor's Legacy endorsement is an acknowledgement of our willingness to interrupt the status quo and tackle head on issues that have lingered unresolved for far too long.”
