growth begins, the damaged parts can be successfully trimmed and the shrub reshaped. Wait to trim azaleas and rhododendrons until after they have bloomed. And hold back on pruning rose stems until buds appear on them or else you risk dieback. As a general rule, prune early blooming plants, such as clematis and azalea, after they flower, and prune late bloomers before they flower. Use sharp clean cutters and your shrubs will thank you.
