Peter Avellino for Town Council Open Letter to Pound Ridge Residents

My fervor for protecting our fragile environment began as a young child when I set out for a camping trip at the Ward-Pound Ridge Reservation. This experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for Pound Ridge and inspired my unwavering journey in community service for our Town.

As a resident for the past 20 years, living in Pound Ridge has been extraordinary for me and my wife, Melinda, to raise our two daughters, Lindsay (17) and Jessica (15), who attend Fox Lane High School. My family and I enjoy being part of a vibrant community filled with people of varied backgrounds and interests with a common passion to preserve Pound Ridge’s natural beauty and character.

Over the years, I have acquired extensive knowledge with respect to town affairs as an attendee of many board meetings, a past member of the Ad Hoc Housing Committee, a past contributor to the Comprehensive Plan, and through my personal involvement in advocacy work on important issues affecting our community such as co-authoring legislation for the Environmentally Sensitive Lands and Protection of Steep Slopes ordinances.

In June 2013, my passion for protecting our environment inspired me to obtain Town Board approval to spearhead an Environmental Steering Committee, under the auspices of the Conservation Board, consisting of individuals from key town boards/commissions and local organizations, subject-matter experts, and residents, charged with creating an annual environmental day, with the inaugural event, “Pound Ridge Go Green Day,” planned for Spring 2014. This will be a family event that brings together various ecological messages from our town boards/commissions and local organizations to educate residents on making responsible choices.

A proposed future goal of the committee will be to develop and implement an Environmental Action Plan for the Town.

In addition, I am an active member of the Office of Emergency Management and a past member of the Volunteer Ambulance Corps. I also participated in various activities with the PRES-PTA while my children were in attendance.

As a health-care financial executive, and Principal of Healthcare Business Solutions Group, with more than twenty years of experience, I provide strategic guidance to health-care providers by paving the way to profitability, revenue retention, and regulatory compliance.

I am professionally affiliated with HFMA (former Founders Chair and award recipient) and HCCA, a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for HARA, and a recognized speaker and author of articles on healthcare financial topics. I am an award recipient of the Who’s Who Worldwide Registry of Business Global Leaders for outstanding leadership and achievement, and the National Republican Congressional Committee for outstanding leadership in promoting a pro-business agenda including tax reform and fiscal responsibility.

As Councilman, I will combine my knowledge in town affairs with my professional experience in assisting our Town with forward-thinking solutions, for the challenges that we face, in order to remain fiscally sound, compliant with all regulatory requirements, and vigilant in protecting our environment and drinking water for a sustainable future.

I ask for your vote this Nov. 5 to be given the opportunity to serve the people of this great community.
