Pajama Shabbat and Family Dinner

This Friday night, April 25, local families will be celebrating “Pajama Shabbat” at nearby Pleasantville Community Synagogue (aka “Joyful Judaism”). Rabbi Mark Sameth - who last year was named “one of the 36 most inspiring rabbis in America” by The Jewish Daily Forward - will be leading the service, followed by a dinner, which is free and open to the public, synagogue members and non-members welcome but RSVP's to the dinner are required.

“Pajama Shabbat has been a big hit with families,” says Rabbi Sameth. “The idea is really simple. We invite parents to bring their little ones in their pajamas for a 6:00 pm story-time & sing-along. If they can stay up a little later we have dinner at 6:15. If they’re still up there’s a Family Service (which will be featuring the PCS house band “The Pleasmatics,” as well as the Hebrew School 4th Grade Class) at 7:15 pm. And then if they’re still awake there’s a refreshment hour at 8:30 pm.”

Pleasantville Community Synagogue is celebrating its seventeenth year, and describes itself as a “progressive” community which actively welcomes interfaith, multi-racial, and GLBTQ. Synagogue members hail (at last count) from twenty towns, villages, and cities across Westchester. The synagogue is located at 219 Bedford Road, Pleasantville, with parking on Clark Street.
