LBA: Orioles Take Majors Title

DATE: 6/24/11, TOWN PARK, MAJORS CHAMPIONSHIP - ORIOLES VS. ROCKIES

In an exciting back & forth game (recorded by Lewisboro TV for later broadcast), the Orioles edged the Rockies, 9-7 to earn the Majors Championship on Friday night at Town Park.

The Orioles got off to a quick start, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on a 2 RBI double by Jared Kersh and Ben Ciubotaru’s RBI single.  The Rockies countered with 4 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd, with key at-bats by Alex Kohlhagen (single, run scored), Jason Dowd, (walk, run scored), Luke Shippee (single, RBI, run scored), Daniel Barrueco (HBP, run scored), Ryan Cavanagh (single, RBI), Tom Alfredo (BB, RBI) and Kyle Campbell (single, RBI).  The Rockies followed up with 3 more runs to pull ahead in the top of the 3rd, as Jason Weinhaus (walk, run scored), Matt Polemeni-Hegarty (walk, run scored), Kohlhagen (single, run scored), Dowd (fielder’s choice, RBI), and Shippee (double, 2 RBI) led the charge.  The Orioles then countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the third to tie the score, as Richard Wright (single), Eric Decaminada (fielder’s choice) and Ciubotaru (single) all drove in a run apiece.

The Orioles pulled ahead in the bottom of the 5th inning, as Sean White (walk) and Kersh (single) each reached base, and Alex Rajovic hit a double to drive in both.  The Rockies staged an impressive rally by loading the bases in the top of the 6th, but some great pitching by Kersh (3 K’s) ended the rally and sealed the deal for the Orioles.
