Ana Piquero Picked for Fox Lane HS Assistant Principal

Longtime Fox Lane High School foreign language teacher Ana Piquero is now the school's newest assistant principal.

The Bedford Central School District's Board of Education voted to appoint Piquero at its organizational meeting on Wednesday. Her appointment, which is for a 3-year probationary period, runs from July 11 to July 10, 2016. Piquero has been with Bedford Central since 1991 and became the coordinator for the foreign language department in 2003. Her experience also includes serving on several district committees. Piquero is replacing Robin Schamberg, who retired at the end of the previous school year.

“She is as dedicated as they come, as hard working as they come," said Superintendent Jere Hochman.

School board President Susan Wollin said that she was "truly delighted" about the appointment.

The search process was detailed in the board's packet material for the meeting. About 300 people respond to an advertisement for the post that was ran in early May. The pool was narrowed down to seven finalists, who were interviewed by a 19-member committee that included parents, teachers, administrators, students and other staff.

Piquero will be joining Adelberg and fellow Assistant Principal Brian Davidson in the school's administrative leadership team.

The school board also approved a mostly concurrent leave of absence for Piquero from her teaching position, which will run from July 1 to June 30, 2016.
