Bedford Central Makes Push for Capital Plan

With just more than a month before a bond referendum on a roughly $31.8 million capital plan, Bedford Central School District officials are doing what they can to promote the vote.

There are an array of communications initiatives being undertaken for the vote, according to a timetable presented at Wednesday's school board meeting by Assistant Superintendent for Business Mark Betz. They include (in the order presented):

  • Adding vote information to school open houses through Sept. 19
  • Having a "Capital Info Buzz" session
  • Updating the district's website, bcsdny.org, with details of the capital plan, including estimated costs
  • Sending out a "Did You Know" postcard to households on Sept. 23, which will inform people about the vote taking place. It will include details on registering to vote and upcoming information sessions.
  • Hold two info sessions and tours: one at West Patent Elementary School on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. and another at Fox Lane Middle School on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. The two schools, under the capital plan, would be getting the most extensive renovations. (Information on the plan can be found here).
  • Have a video Q&A with Superintendent Jere Hochman, the construction manager and architect for the project.
  • Send out an information brochure to the community 14 days prior to the vote.
  • Send out another postcard series a week before the referendum, with will serve as a reminder to vote.
The referendum itself, according to the district, is on Oct. 22 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters will use whatever elementary school their home is zoned for as their polling place.
