Feedback for Bedford Schools' Bond to be Presented

At tonight's Bedford Central school board meeting, an update presentation is planned for community engagement over the district's proposed bond vote package.

Bedford Central's school board will learn tonight what the public thinks of a district proposal for a series of major renovations as part of an upcoming bond vote.

The agenda for tonight - the meeting starts around 7 p.m. at Fox Lane Middle School - notes that there will be a report on community engagement, an outreach initiative from the Community Investment Program (CIP), a committee tasked with getting the word out about the bond proposal.

CIP scheduled two community engagement sessions on Dec. 4 at West Patent Elementary School, a building that under plan could receive more than $30 million worth of renovations, including gutting of its main wings, and an improved cafetorium and library.

The scope of what will go into the bond vote, which has a March 12 referendum goal, has not been decided. All potential items being considered, ranging from lab replacement at the middle school to roof work on several building, have a price tag of more than $75 million. The school board will be presented with a recommended package for the bond vote at its Dec. 19 meeting, with a Jan. 9 public hearing. The board is slated to vote on a package to put up for a referendum at its Jan. 23 meeting.
