Close to 500 students from across the Bedford Central School District performed in a mass strings concert.
The concert, held Thursday, packed the gym at Fox Lane High School. Encompassing grades 4-12, it offered a rare opportunity for Bedford Central to hold an event that includes students from all seven of its schools. Parents listened in the packed stands.
Students performed in seperate pieces according to elementary, middle and high school levels. An annual event, this year's theme had to do with lullabies and nightmare theme songs, said music teacher Jamie Bineau. She is an instructor for kids at both Mount Kisco Elementary School and Bedford Village Elementary School. Appropriately, students and teacher alike came in bathrobes or pajamas.
Paul Tooker, a music teacher at Fox Lane High School, felt that turnout was good.
"We've been doing it every year and it is just as crazy," he said.
Songs performed included "World Lullabies from A to ZZZzzzz" by Carrie Lane Gruselle, to "March of the Shadows" by Brian Balmages.
The event is meant to coincide with the start of Music in Our Schools Month.
