Katonah-Lewisboro Parent Council: Vote "Yes" May 20

The parent group supports all three spending propositions on the ballot.

KLSD Voters:

On Tuesday, May 20th, our community will vote on the Proposed 2014-2015 KLSD School Budget and two additional propositions for bus replacement and JJHS track and field renovation. The KLSD Parent Council by a majority vote supports all three propositions.

Parent Council supports the proposed school budget, which reflects a 3.24% spending decrease over last year. This budget maintains and enhances district programming at spending levels that are within the tax cap limitations while additionally implementing full day kindergarten. This budget also finances a continually growing list of unfunded state and federal mandates (such as APPR, RTI, Common Core Curriculum) and includes increased oversight for secondary curriculum and instruction, continues funding for safety and security and maintains course offerings and extracurricular programs.

To maintain the district’s fleet of safe buses for our children and the current level of transportation, Parent Council supports Proposition #2 authorizing the purchase of five 75- passenger buses, one wheelchair accessible van and one Utility Vehicle for a cost not to exceed $872,500. This purchase will be funded from the general fund surplus and will not incur additional debt.

Lastly, Parent Council supports Proposition #3 authorizing the JJHS turf field replacement and track renovation at a maximum cost of $1,620,000 from the capital fund and will not incur additional debt. If this work is not done, the track/field will close by Fall 2015 due to safety concerns.

We urge voters to join us in voting “Yes” to all three propositions on May 20th.

Sincerely,

2013-2014 Katonah-Lewisboro School District’s Parent Council
