Reder Picked for Vacant Bedford School Board Seat

The Bedford Central School District announced that Edward Reder was appointed to the vacant school board seat formerly held by Lee Goldstein.

Reder said in a statement, “I am excited about serving on the Board and advancing the educational experience for all of our students and demonstrating ongoing fiscal responsibility to our community.”  

School board President Susan Wollin said in her statement, “Replacing Ms. Lee Goldstein and her service, commitment, experience and her understanding of the Bedford Central School District was a big task.  We are confident Mr. Reder will step in and dedicate himself to contributing to the work of the Board immediately.  We would like to thank all of the candidates; the community is fortunate to have talented citizens willing to participate in this process and to volunteer their time in service to the school district."

Goldstein resigned in August due to a move out of the district. The board decided to take an approach where people in the community could apply to the seat, hold public interviews and then decide who to appoint.

Reder, a Mount Kisco resident since 2006, was one of three candidates interviewed by the remaining six board members for the seat in a public forum on Sept. 18. The other two were Bedford Corners resident Brian Sheerin and Pound Ridge resident Joe Malichio.

Reder, a father of two kids who currently works for Workday, Inc. doing sales and human resources consulting, also has experience as a New York state legislative aide. He is also on the search committee for a new executive director for Mount Kisco Child Care Center.

Reder will serve until next May, with his time expiring on the day of the election for school board seats and for a referendum on the 2014-15 budget.
