We thank the Harvey School for the below submissions:

Harvey’s tennis team, undefeated going into the HVAL playoffs, stayed perfect when the Cavaliers defeated South Kent, 5-2 Saturday. Harvey's 1st and 2nd singles players, Brent Feldman and David Shabshis won their matches easily, 10-1 and 10-5 respectively.

Bryan Krosser and Dylan Rosenthal fought to victory through two long, close matches. Krosser won 11-9 and Rosenthal won 11-10 (7-1).

A quick victory by Harvey's first doubles team was the 5th game won to take the title.

Harvey Baseball Out of HVALs with Heartbreak Loss

Harvey and Masters, CT two battled for over three hours before the Cavaliers saw their chance for an HVAL title end Wednesday (May 16) with a 14-12 first-round loss.

Harvey took the lead early on a 2 run home run by senior Jason Ecker. Harvey then stretched the lead to 4-0 on a two-out RBI single by Corey Eisenband scoring Will Schubert. Masters then fought back with a seven-run explosion in the bottom half of in the second inning. The Masters rally included back-to- back homeruns.

Now trailing by three, Harvey bounced back with 5 runs of its own in the top of the 3rd with six hits in the inning, as well as an 11 pitch walk to Jackson Roberts.

The slugfest continued into the 5th inning with the score knotted up at 11. Masters capitalized on some uncharacteristic sloppy defense by Harvey. Four errors by Harvey allowed three unearned runs to score to give Masters a 14-11 lead. But The Harvey’s bats would not go down without one last fight. The Cavaliers chipped away for a run in the 6th as Will Schubert scored on an RBI by Jackson Roberts.

Will Schubert, the third of three Harvey pitchers, retired the side 1, 2, 3 in the bottom half of the 6th to keep it close for his team’s last at bat. Senior Mikhyle Stein started the seventh inning off with a single to left. After a fielder’s choice, Jason Ecker reached on an error, putting the tying runs on base, but Mike Chavkin and Schubert each flew out to end the game and end the season for Harvey.

Seniors, Mike Morra, Mikhyle Stein, Jason Ecker, and Will Schubert had a combined 11 hits on the afternoon. Coach Mike Rubenfeld praised his seniors.

“Their abilities and leadership will surely be missed next season.”  “All in all,” he said, “it was the most exciting game of the year, and although the result was not what we had in mind, it was a good game to cap off a nice season for us.”

Harvey Girls Lacrosse Loses Second-Round Game in HVALs

Harvey @ Masters of CT., Wednesday, May 16

The third time was not the charm for the Harvey girls lacrosse team as they lost to Master’s of Connecticut 19-7 in the semi-final of the Housatonic Valley Athletic League playoffs Wednesday, May 16. Masters had beaten the Cavaliers twice in the regular season.

Having lost 18-2 and 14-9 to Master’s in the two earlier matches this season, the Cavaliers looked like their third meeting with the team from West Simsbury, CT would turn out better.

Harvey struck first with a goal by senior captain Nikki Pugliese. The score remained close for the first ten minutes as sophomore Julia Peraglia and junior captain Leila Zuaiter also scored for Harvey.  But Lauren Lebo of Master’s struck hard and often for the Lions.

Harvey sophomore Melissa Wyman had a great game, scoring a hat trick, and sophomore Audrey Rowe also scored.  Harvey finishes 5-8 overall this season.
