For the first time ever Major League Baseball is putting 10 teams into the playoffs. One winner from each division and two wild card teams from each league will battle it out to crown this year’s World Series Champion.
The last day of last year’s regular season was one of the most memorable of all time as the Braves and Red Sox both had historic collapses and the Cardinals and Rays snuck into the playoffs on the very last day. The St. Louis momentum continued as the team went on to win it all.
The American League East may have three of baseball’s best teams in it, and while this year it is possible that all three could make it into the postseason, the question remains who will win the division crown?
The Yankees offense is another year older but Manager Joe Girardi and the rest of the Bronx Bombers are hoping that the young power hitters can carry the ageing left side of the infield through another season.
One of the biggest problems with New York last year was a lack of quality starting pitching, which the Yankees addressed by bringing back Freddy Garcia and Andy Pettite, signing Hiroki Kuroda and trading for Michael Pineda. Finally the Yankees should have the arms in there behind C.C. Sabathia to compete for another ring.
The playoffs are a long way off but it is never to early to start speculating who wins the American League East.
