South Salem Native Earns Place on All-ACC Women's Soccer Team

South Salem native and 2009 Harvey grad Maddy Haller has been named to the All-ACC Women's Soccer Team from Duke University.

DURHAM, N.C. - Harvey 2009 alum Maddy Haller was one of eight selections from Duke when the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released the 2012 All-ACC Women’s Soccer Academic Team Friday. Haller, a South Salem native, was selected along with her Blue Devil teammates Tara Campbell, Kim DeCesare, Erin Koballa, Kaitlyn Kerr, Mollie Pathman, Laura Weinberg and Cassie Pecht.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Earning All-ACC Academic Team honors for the third straight year, Haller played in all 23 matches while starting 15 games on the defensive end for the Blue Devils. Haller, former HVAL All-Star in soccer for The Harvey School and top scholar at the Katonah school, played left outside back for Duke and helped lead the Blue Devils to six shutouts on the season. She is majoring in History and African American Studies and graduates this May.

As a team this season, Duke advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth time out of the last six years before falling 1-0 to top-seeded Penn State.  The Blue Devils posted a 15-6-2 overall record on the year.
