Two Local Residents Score High on National Latin Exam

Over 150,000 students nationwide took the National Latin Exam this year and 15 Harvey students learned they did well.

The Harvey School has announced that fifteen students have earned recognition for outstanding achievement on the National Latin Exam. Tim Stark, chair of Classical and Modern Languages, recognized the students at a Headmaster’s meeting this week.

Four students in Latin I earned magna cum laude recognition, including two local residents, Matthew Tuckner of Pound Ridge and Carolyn Stark of Katonah, along with Matthew Diamond and Anderson Greenwood. Aliya Mayers achieved the highest distinction of maxima cum laude.

In Latin II, Rohan Cassells and Julia Kravits earned the distinction of maxima cum laude. Aila Prieto was awarded magna cum laude while Carly Kaplan and Emily Sirota earned cum laude recognition.

Four students in Latin II earned certificates of achievement. Taylor Robinson and Samuel Smythe received magna cum laude. Stacey Davidson and Catherine Trewhella were cum laude honorees.

Senior Jesse Silbert in Latin IV- Poetry earned cum laude recognition for his performance.

Commenting on the achievements of the Latin students, Mr. Stark said, "I was extremely pleased with the number of students receiving awards this year, and many students put extra effort into preparing for the exam."

The National Latin Exam, administered annually, involves 150,000 students nationwide, including all of Harvey’s upper school Latin students. The exam tests students on forms, grammar, vocabulary, history, culture, geography, derivatives, and mythology.
