Harvey Baseball Gets League Win

Armonk's Chavkin Pitches Cavaliers to Victory

Harvey picked up its second league win of the year Wednesday defeating Forman 6-3.

The Cavaliers got off to a quick start with a leadoff double by Waccabuc’s Curtis Rattner, followed by a single by Corey Eisenband. After a stolen base, Harvey had runners on second and third with no out. The rally seemed it would stall when the next two batters were retired, but Chappaqua's Adam Gurman connected with a clutch two-out single to score two runs. Eighth-grader Pierce Steinberg then walked, and Ben Alper continued his hot hitting with a two-out hit that scored a run.

Alper finished the day going 3-4 with an RBI. Gurman went 2-4 while picking up 3RBI. Armonk’s Mike Chavkin got his first start of the year, going five strong innings. He finished the day with seven strikeouts in five innings while only walking one. Chavkin’s final pitch came with none out in the fifth when Forman catcher Bryan Dempsey would hit an inside the park home run to deep center field.

After a great day’s work on the mound, Chavkin gave way to sophomore Theo Rattner to close out the game. Rattner, of Waccabuc, pitched two scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two.

Harvey would add an insurance run in the seventh inning when Alper reached third base and came into score on a wild pitch.

The Cavaliers, now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the league, will finally get their first home game of the year Saturday when they host Christian Heritage.
