Harvey Names Top Student Athletes

The Harvey School has announced the top student-athletes of the month of January. Chosen for the excellence they display in the classroom, on the athletic fields and in the broader school community are senior Lillian Brouwer and sophomore Michael DePass.

Brouwer, a resident of Stamford, Conn. has earned a Cavalier Scholar certificate, an award given to the student whose grade-point average is a 4.0 or higher. While excelling in her academic load of four AP classes and one honors class, Brouwer is a key member of the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Senior team, which recently returned from Sweden where she and her teammates represented Team USA, placing fifth against top teams from Sweden and Finland. Later this month, she will compete with her teammates in the US Nationals at Colorado Springs. Last month, the Skyliners won a gold medal in Hershey, PA at the Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships.

Harvey athletic director Mark Brandon has high praise for this month’s top female student-athlete. “Lillian's dedication and time commitment to synchronized skating is an example to us all,” said Brandon.

January’s top male student-athlete is Michael DePass who also earned a Cavalier Scholar certificate for stellar achievement in his academic schedule of five honors classes, including two languages. A three-sport athlete and captain of his JV basketball team, DePass, a Mount Vernon resident, is also involved in the community service club and is a regular attendee of the school’s monthly trip to the Blythedale Children’s Hospital.

The athletic director says DePass is most deserving of the honor he has received. “Mike is an excellent captain, playing with passion and leading by example. His energy and positive attitude are an inspiration to us all.”

The Harvey School is a coeducational college-preparatory school for students in grades six through 12.
