Harvey to Host Yankees Manager Joe Girardi Appearance

The Harvey School announces that New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi will appear next month as a special guest in the school’s new community venture called "Harvey Presents," a program designed to share The Walker Center for The Arts with the local community. 13-time Emmy Award winning sports broadcaster Jimmy Roberts of NBC and The Golf Channel will serve as interviewer and moderator for the event Sunday Jan.12, 2014 at 6 p.m.

"Harvey Presents: An Evening with Joe Girardi" will take place in the intimate setting of The Lasdon Theater at The Walker Center for the Arts on the campus of The Harvey School. Fans of the New York Yankees will have an extraordinary up close opportunity to hear the Yankee manager share stories about his days both as a player on the great Yankee teams of the late 1990s and about his time as the manager of the team since 2008. With just a month to go before pitchers and catchers report to the Yankees spring training complex in Tampa, the Yankee manager will also talk about his team’s prospects for the upcoming 2014 season.

The event will also offer a limited number of fans the opportunity to meet and greet the Yankee skipper at 5 p.m. for a photo and autograph opportunity.

Girardi, known as a solid defensive catcher and clutch hitter, enjoyed a 15-year career, playing for the Cubs, the Rockies, the Cardinals and the Yankees. He earned World Series rings as a member of the 1996, 1998 and 1999 world champion Yankees. After retiring as a player, Girardi stayed in the game as a TV baseball commentator and major league coach before becoming the manager of the Florida Marlins in 2006.
