Water Rates Info Meeting; Rosh Hashanah Start

1. Tonight, the Bedford Town Board is holding a public info meeting regarding is proposed water rate hikes for the Consolidated Water District, which coincide with bringing the district's Katonah water plant online. In a community letter, Supervisor Lee Roberts wrote that increases, which will vary by pipe size, are necessary because of added operating costs from the plant, including purchasing water and electricity. However, she explained, because of lower costs than projected for some items, the rate hikes would be less than previously thought.

The increases would be an average of 20 percent and an average rise of $97 per year. The new rate list will also include a lower minimum for a bill cost and a bigger incline rate for consumption, Roberts wrote. The changes are also meant to encourage conservation. The info session is technically not a public hearing, which according to Department of Public Works Commissioner Kevin Winn is not required. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Bedford Town House in Bedford Hills. For a list of the proposed rates, click here for the meeting packet.
