Enjoy a Winter Wonderland, Holiday Trains at Lasdon Park in Somers

The holiday Lionel train show will arrive for the first time at Lasdon Park in Somers on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The exciting sights and sounds of holiday Lionel trains, featuring the Polar Express, as well as famous holiday characters, will arrive for the first time at Lasdon Park in Somers on Saturday, Dec. 14. 

The holiday model train show will be featured during the 'Holiday on the Hill' event which will run on Dec. 14, 15, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..

In addition, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be making a special visit on Sunday, Dec. 15, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children; proceeds will help fund Lasdon programs.

Lasdon will host a fun-packed holiday show featuring trains running on more than 150 feet of track on a giant eight-foot by 22-foot multi-level layout. There will be dozens of tiny buildings and structures in a display that combines fantasy and real train themes, including the Polar Express chugging along to Santa’s Village at the North Pole and highlights of the Metro-North Railroad line from Manhattan to Katonah. 

Along the way visitors will see famous holiday icons such as Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the Grinch, Charlie Brown and Peanuts characters, Ralphie from A Christmas Storyand Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The Putnam Humane Society will be there on Saturdays for families wishing to adopt a homeless pet.

Fresh balsam fir Christmas trees and wreaths will also be on sale in an old- fashioned tree lot next to the Garden Shop, which will also sell poinsettias, plants, gifts and refreshments. 

Proceeds from tree sales will benefit Base Camp Westchester, a non-profit organization aiding homeless veterans in Westchester. The main house will be decorated for the holidays and the Westchester Veterans Museum will feature a new exhibit titled “The Holiday Season during Wartime.”

Residents would be able to bring their ice-skates and take a whirl on the new ice rink that will be available for family skating, weather permitting. 

This event is sponsored by the Friends of Lasdon along with M&T Bank and supported by members of the Katonah Chamber of Commerce including Charles Department Store, TrustCo Bank, Katonah Hardware, Katonah Architectural Hardware and the Blue Dolphin Restaurant in Katonah.
