Create an Enchanted Forest at Westmoreland Sanctuary this Autumn!
Been to too many 'Harvest Festivals' or pumpkin patches this fall? Come join us at Westmoreland Sanctuary this October for a new twist on celebrating the autumn by helping to create and celebrate our Enchanted Forest. The Enchanted Forest is a fall event to encourage the community to appreciate the untamed beauty of our local forests.
We invite individuals, families, local businesses and other organizations to ‘adopt’ a tree, boulder or other site along our Enchanted Trail to decorate with enchanted creatures or fantastical things. Let your imagination run wild in the woods! We prefer displays created with natural or recycled materials or a nature theme. The Trail will be open dawn to dusk during the month of October. Visitors will receive an ‘Enchanted Trail Map’ to locate each display and a score card to vote for their favorites in various prize categories. Displays will also be photographed and featured on the Westmoreland Sanctuary website, blog and Facebook page. Organizations and groups who wish to create a display are also eligible for artistic assistance from Westmoreland’s Artist-in-Residence, Carolyn Nielsen.
On October 18th (6-9 pm) and 19th (1-4 pm) Westmoreland will host the Enchanted Forest Festival. During the day, magical forest creatures will be on hand to guide visitors along the trail, followed by food, games and a live animal show. During the evening we will open our ‘spooky’ trail and cemetery for the older, braver visitors, who will encounter various dark and enchanted creatures, hear stories about the haunted woods, and celebrate the night with a marshmallow roast. Come in costume and be part of the fun!
