McBurnie Leads Harvey: Bedford-Katonah Daily Sports Digest, Feb. 8

BV Bball We thank the Harvey Athletic Department for the below submissions: Harvey vs. Forman On 2/1 the Harvey boys’ varsity basketball team hosted league opponents, the Forman School. It was a hotly contested battle throughout. Harvey played an aggressive full court defense throughout most of the game. The score was 37-30 at halftime, with Harvey holding the lead. Harvey held a lead throughout the second half and sealed the victory. The final score was Harvey 71, Forman 62.  Harvey was led by senior Aaron McBurnie and junior Julien Higgs. Fox Lane dominates For Fox Lane's wrestling squad, it was a day of domination at the Division 1 divisionals at Harrison Feb. 4 as nine of its wrestlers came home with first-place finishes. They were Brandon Fay (99 pounds), Nick Engert (106), Frank Surace (113), Sam Speno (126), Danny Ventura (132), Tom Grippi (138), Matt Pasqualini (160) and Dan Clune (220).   JJ duo wins John Jay's grapplers also competed at Harrison and came away with two champions. They were Declan Myer (170) and Mike Rosenthal (182). LaPoint Back Again As Rockland Boulders Manager

Former Yankee looks to improve upon 40-52 finish in 2011.

The Rockland Boulders say that former New York Yankee Dave LaPoint will return as manager for the 2012 season of the Can-Am League professional baseball team.   In 2011, the Boulders first season of play, LaPoint managed the team as it went 40-52, finishing in 5th place.   “This season we will be more prepared when it comes to putting the team on the field.” LaPoint said. “We have acquired some pretty good players in the offseason and are looking to add some more before the season starts. We have a beautiful stadium with great fans. It is our duty to improve on last year by quite a margin and we will do that,” he said. NY Giants Ticker-Tape Parade Set for Tuesday

The Super Bowl champions will be feted by NYC Tuesday.

The celebratory ticker tape parade for the New York Giants—winner of Super Bowl XLVI—will kick off at Battery Place and Washington Street in New York City on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. “Big Blue gave us a game to remember, and on Tuesday we're going to give them a parade to remember,” said New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a statement today. The parade will travel north on the Canyon of Heroes to Worth Street. A ceremony will follow at City Hall, where the mayor will present the Keys to the City to the team. Knox Earns Con Ed Award: Bedford-Katonah Daily Sports Digest, Feb. 6

Welcome to Patch's daily snapshot of sports in Bedford and Katonah.   Knox does it all On the court, nobody has a sweeter stroke than John Jay's Raegan Knox. Knox is the school all-time leading scorer in girls basketball as she broke Dawn DiMicco’s record of 1,278 points which stood for 16 years. Now she’s just eight points away from the overall basketball scoring record at the school. Boys record holder Tim Nevins finished his oustanding career with 1,471 points scored. Off the court, Knox is a great student as well. With that combination, one gets to earn the honor of being a Con-Ed Scholar Athlete Award winner, which Knox earned this past week. Led by Dylan Peretz (19 points) and Will Trawick (15), Fox Lane (12-2) garnered bragging rights by defeating visiting Greeley 63-60 Feb. 1. Greeley (8-7) was led by Harrison Brown (16) and Connor Domershick (14). Bedford School District Defends Decision to Replace Ayo Hart

Superintendent of Schools Jere Hochman warned parents and others against “assumptions” or thoughts that “our decisions are based on subjective or unfounded opinions.”

In a statement to the Bedford School Board, Superintendent Jere Hochman defended last month’s firing of longtime Fox Lane girls basketball coach Ayo Hart. Her dismissal—for reasons the district adamantly refuses to disclose—has generated a low-key controversy, with at least one petition already claiming 65 signatories beseeching officials to reinstate the coach. Hart, who was not a district employee, had been a part-time coach with the basketball program for 11 years, most recently as the varsity’s head coach. Her dismissal followed a Jan. 12 incident, in which she departed a game against Port Chester, leaving her team in the hands of an assistant coach. Harvey V girls hoops We thank the Harvey girls basketball coaching staff, its athletic and communications departments for the below submissions: Harvey Girls Lose to King School Harvey’s Girls’ Varsity Basketball team dropped a 54-28 decision Wednesday (Feb. 1) to King School of Stamford, CT. The Lady Cavaliers were down by only nine at the half, but King’s offense poured it on in the second half, outscoring Harvey by 17. The loss dropped Harvey’s record to 10-3. Harvey JV ice-hockey We thank the Harvey JV ice-hockey coaching staff for the below submission: The Harvey JV Hockey Team traveled to Lasker Rink in Central Park Saturday night (Jan. 28) to take on the Ice Hockey In Harlem Program and downed them 10 - 2.  The Cavs dominated the game from the opening face-off jumping out to a 6 - 0 lead after one period and 9 - 1 after two.  The Cavs were the more talented team but exhibited considerable class and respect for their opponents.  Several Cavs' players mentioned to the coaching staff how much they admired their opponents' work ethic, determination and love of the game.    The Cavs scoring was as follows: Freshman Tommy Gattuso …
