"I’ve decided to run for the KLSD school board because it is a chance for me to give back to the community when strong leadership is critically needed," he said. "As a district, we need to shift the focus from negative politics to the extraordinary teaching and learning that occurs every day in our schools. In order to maintain these high standards, and in light of the various state mandates and difficult budgetary environment, we need to manage our resources more efficiently and effectively."

With a master's degree in business administration from New York University's Stern School, and experience in human resources and recruitment, Holbrook's goal is to "preserve and enhance the existing KLSD high quality educational experience without increasing the budget."

"I’d seek to improve the tone of the board dialogue by taking a more collaborative, efficient and optimistic approach to district affairs," he said.

Treyz, who has sat on the board for six years, could not be reached for comment.

Lipton, an incumbent who serves as president, told Patch he's seen "tremendous change" in his time on the panel, and he's looking forward to "what's to come." Stone said the "task before the board is expenditure control and revenue enhancement"—something he's ready to commit time and effort to accomplishing.

Residents will vote on candidates and the district's $114.8 million budget May 21.
