A state police dispatcher confirmed tonight Amy and Samuel Friedlander are dead, along with their two children ages 10 and 8 years old, both students at Lewisboro Elementary.

They were found some time after 3 p.m. Tuesday in response to a welfare check.

At the scene, state police Maj. Michael Kopy told The Journal News it appeared to be a murder suicide.

This is the letter that went out to parents of children at Lewisboro Elementary tonight:

We have been informed by the New York State police, with confirmation from other agencies, that a tragedy resulting in the death of two Lewisboro Elementary School students, and their parents has occurred this evening in their home. Lewisboro Elementary School will operate on a regular schedule. With the exception of Country Children’s Center students, we ask that you please not arrive at school early, as our staff requires adequate time to prepare and respond during this difficult time.  Also, please know that social workers and psychologists will be available for students, staff and families.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Kreutzer
Superintendent
