Flood Warning Till 10PM April 30, Flood Watch Till 10AM May 1

Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties are under a Flood Warning till 10PM and a Flood Watch through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

At 7:40 p.m. moderate to locally heavy rain was falling accross the region. Several rivers and streams have risen above their minor flood benchmarks, the NWS reported.

That includes the Mahwah River, Rahway River and HoHoKus Brook.
Periods of moderate rain will continue through the evening with up to an additional inch of rainfall expected through 10 p.m.

More flooding is expected, the NWS said:

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. A FLOOD WARNING MEANS FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND. TO REPORT FLOODING...HAVE THE NEAREST LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY RELAY YOUR REPORT TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE.
