Bedford Free Library Leaving Village - White Castle to Occupy Space

Bedford Free Library Moving to Make Room for White Castle

The Bedford Free Library is moving to a smaller space to save money and make room for a new White Castle burger restaurant.

Lynn Ryan, Executive Director of the Bedford Historical Society, said she was sad to see the Library go. "They've been in the Village since 1903 and are an important part of our community. We're going to miss them but we hope White Castle will continue the Library's tradition of allowing the children to ring their bell at the Treasure Hunt," she added.

White Castle Burger has already drawn preliminary plans for their new restaurant. "The space was a natural fit," said Bill Dingg, a White Castle spokesman. "It kind of looked like a castle already. We just had to put some stucco on the upper portion and add some turrets. The Town's been great and they really liked the concept of having a drive-up window since parking is so tight in the Village."

"Because we need the income, we're happy to rent the space to a different business," said Lynn. "It's a shame White Castle couldn't keep more of the 200 year old building intact but at least they're saving the cupola. They're also offering all Historical Society members a free double cheeseburger craver's pack which is nice of them," she said. Lynn mentioned that members should be sure to show their membership card to get the special deal.
