'Talk to the Experts' Fair Addresses Community Questions About BCSD Capital Plan

The Bedford Central School District Community Investment Program hosted a "TALK TO THE EXPERTS" CAPITAL PLAN Communications Fair at Fox Lane Middle School on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

The BCSD community was invited to “TALK TO THE EXPERTS” in various areas of the proposed Capital Plan.  Attendees found the Fair/Open House forum to be a tremendously approachable way to address specific questions and learn more details about the Plan.

There were eight tables with 26 experts providing many clarifications and robust conversation.  Members of the Capital Planning Committee shared various insights into District facilities reviews, demographics, proposed inclusions and methodology.  The District Financial Adviser & Bond Council helped to clarify financial questions about costs, debt, tax implications and process.

The Sustainability/Energy Consultant table clarified what Sustainability means relating to the Capital Plan as well as anticipated energy efficiencies. Conceptual renderings were displayed regarding proposed renovations to West Patent Elementary School + Fox Lane Middle School

School principals were accompanied by parents and architects to clarify what is being proposed for the two schools, why, and the process and possible timeline. The new Construction Managers were present discussing scrubbing of numbers, cost estimations and the flow of the project.  Fox Lane Sports Booster Club and the Athletic Department displayed details of the deteriorated Track/Turf and shared with attendees the tracks condition has been so bad that track meets have not been able to be held at FL for the last six years.  Lastly, the Safety/Security resources discussed evaluations and considerations for all buildings.

The evening then flowed into the 8pm BCSD Board of Education Meeting which was televised.  Each of the eight Communications Fair tables provided an on-camera summary of questions and discussions during the Fair.
