State Grant Applications Now Being Accepted to Fund Economic Development in Hudson Valley

Assemblyman Buchwald (D-Westchester) announced that Consolidated Funding Applications (CFAs) can now be submitted for the third round of the New York State Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) funding. CFAs serve as a one-stop-shop for access to economic development funding, streamlining the grant application process for state resources to make it easier to apply.

“In order to help our economy grow, we need to provide our local businesses and employers with the tools they need to hire and expand,” Assemblyman Buchwald said. “Westchester has been resilient in a recovering economy, and this available funding will encourage further development and employment in our region.”

Applications for these state grants can be submitted by businesses, municipalities and not-for-profits, where they will be evaluated by the Mid-Hudson Regional Economical Development Council (REDC) and appropriate state agency. A total of $760 million throughout the state will be made available for this round of grants.

The Mid-Hudson REDC, which includes Westchester, takes a long-term approach to economic development, utilizing the region’s geographic strengths and talented workforce to invest in job-creation and development. Its chairs are Dennis Murray, President of Marist College, and Leonard Schleifer, President and CEO of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

“All eligible applicants should apply for these state grants,” Assemblyman Buchwald added. “Westchester has much to offer and much to gain from this program, and I am confident our region’s chairs will set forth an ambitious plan for economic growth.”

Assemblyman Buchwald was very pleased that this economic development funding was included in this year’s budget. In 2012, the Mid-Hudson region was awarded $92.8 million to fund 84 projects. Approved funding for projects included the expansion of emergency room space at Northern Westchester Hospital and the redevelopment of the Post Road Corridor in White Plains, including redevelopment of White Plains Hospital.

Applications are available at apps.cio.ny.gov/apps/cfa and will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2013. For more information, visit www.regionalcouncils.ny.gov, or call Assemblyman Buchwald’s office at 914-244-4450.
