Community Corner

Nature In My Backyard - Free lecture

Come out and celebrate Earth Day!  The first event in the BIRDS & BEES series will provide an overview of the ecology of our local community. Learn about the forces that have shaped our area and how to enhance the benefits of these natural processes.

About the lecturer: Chris Nagy, Mianus River Gorge's Director of Research and Land Management, will discuss the role of both preserves and private lands in protecting the environment and our quality of life.  Dr. Nagy is an ecologist whose research has focused on Eastern screech owls and coyotes in New York City, the effects and management of white-tailed deer, and protecting the biodiversity in suburban forests.

PLUS - Richard Chianella, award-winning photographer and framer, will display photographic prints for sale - many depicting native plant and insect species.  Mr. Chianella offers classes in digital photography and Photoshop and is the founder of Picture Framing Unlimited, LLC - located in Great Neck and Rhinebeck, New York.
