Halloween Parade Comes to Downtown Katonah

A crowd of costumed kids and adults turned out Sunday afternoon for Katonah's Halloween parade, an event that, according to folks involved, was previously dormant.

The parade started near Katonah Paint & Hardware, with folks marching on Katonah Avenue before stopping near the train station. After stopping, they marched back in a loop before finishing.

The revival of the parade was the idea of Julia Klagsbrun, a KVIS board member. She originally thought that the parade, which was dropped several years ago due to funding, would be held but then learned it would not be.

In response, she solicited feedback from a Bedford Police lieutenant, who was open to the idea. Klagsbrun then raised money through Kickstarter, an online fundraising platform. Supporters included KVIS, who helped with insurance and was a co-sponsor, a local merchant and members of the community.

“It's wonderful," said Klagsbrun, who liked the turnout.

Lisa Salzano, who is president of KVIS, called the parade a “great community event.”

Photos from the parade are included in this story.
