On the road, three Katonah swimmers continued their dominance in freestyle

On Saturday, July 12th, Katonah Swim and Dive Team hit the road to take on Chappaqua Swim and Tennis in their first away meet of the season.  The 1-1 Katonah team, up against a perennially-strong Chappaqua team, mustered its best effort but came away with a 279-236 defeat.

In the diving event, the team was missing its most experience divers, and the younger divers stepped up.  Gabriella DeCicco, Samantha Spieler and Luna Pagan took 2nd, 3rd and 4th for the Katonah 11 & under girls.  Gabriella also competed in the 18 & under event, taking 3rd. 

Michael Baudinet (18 & under) remained undefeated for the season in backstroke, while Kate Buckley (10 & under) and Kerry Kelly (18 & under) also grabbed first place.  Jessica Crane and Michael O’Donnell (8 & under), Lily Buckley and Kevin Crane (12 & under), and Brian Crane (14 & under) earned second place points for Katonah.

Heading into breaststroke, the score after backstroke was announced:  86-54 in favor of Chappaqua.  It was Katonah’s biggest point differential of the season.  Breaststroke featured some very close 1-2 finishes, but Katonah could secure only two first-place spots, Zach Boies (14 & under) and Kaz Sampson (14 & under).   Second place honors included Lily O’Shaughnessy (8 & under), Kate Buckley and Jeremy Kramer (10 & under), Mackenzie Spieler (12 & under), Hailey Ivey and Jack Buckley (14 & under), Gianna Rappa and Michael Baudinet (18 & under).

Butterfly saw many of the Katonah swimmers beating their personal times, but getting touched out by their Chappaqua opponents.  Claire Gaza (10 & under), Kerry Kelly and Michael Baudinet (18 & under) were the first place finishers for Katonah.  Jessica Crane and Michael O’Donnell (8 & under), Allison Altholz and Kieran Brown (10 & under), Lily Buckley (12 & under), Zach Boies (14 & under) and Kaz Sampson (18 & under) took second place honors.

In the last of the individual events, and three Katonah swimmers continued their dominance in freestyle to remain undefeated this season:  Jessica Crane and Michael O’Donnell (8 & under) and Kerry Kelly (18 & under).  The 10 & under girls got their second freestyle sweep of the season, with Kate Buckley, Samantha Spieler and Claire Gaza going 1-2-3.   Other swimmers putting up points for Katonah were Lily O’Shaughnessy (3rd), Kieran Brown (2nd), Lily Buckley (2nd), Erin Wolter (3rd), Kevin Crane (3rd), Lucy Siegel (3rd), Zach Boies (2nd)Lauren Wolter (3rd) and Brian Crane (2nd).

The exciting relay events were next, with lots of cheering and encouragement from the crowd.  The strength of the relay teams was on display again, with Katonah winning both of their 15 & under relays.  The boys 15 & under relay remained undefeated, with Jack Buckley, Brian Crane, Zach Boies and Kaz Sampson concluding the meet with a first place finish.
